ASTEM 2020 (1/18/20) has been CANCELLED due to the expected poor weather. Our sincerest apologies to all that were going to attend. 

Our Annual Aspiring Scientists, Technologists, Engineers and Mathematicians (ASTEM) event will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 10 a.m. to noon in Johnson Hall of George Mason University SciTech Campus in Prince William.

This event is open to students in grades 7 and 8 who attend schools in Manassas City, Manassas Park, or Prince William County School Divisions. Registration is limited to 190 students. Students must register by 1/10/20. 

There is no charge for the event or for parking, and participants are free to park in any open parking lot at George Mason University Prince William Campus. Please do not park in Freedom Aquatics and Fitness Center parking lot.

Check in and obtain student concurrent session schedules. Visit exhibit tables showcasing [email protected] student research, innovations, and inventions.  

10:15 a.m.-Noon
Student concurrent sessions and parent/student session (RSVP required).

Concurrent Session Offerings for Students

Concurrent sessions for each of the programs below will be offered for student participants at 3 separate times during the event.
  • Innovations explorations
  • Explorations in chemistry
  • Exploration in biology 
  • Explorations in physics 
  • Explorations in engineering
  • Math Logic challenge
  • Coding

While every consideration will be made to put you in your selection each session, the session and room capacity will also dictate where students are assigned for each session. ASTEM capacity is 190 students. After 190, students will be placed on the wait list and added only as capacity allows. Students must register by 1/10/20.

Parent Session on "Preparing Your Student for College"

One session will be offered at 10:15-11:15 a.m. This is a great opportunity to gain insights as to how you might assist your student with transitioning into a college environment and college-level academics. This is for parents of the students who attend with a focus on preparing students for applying to a college preparatory program such as [email protected] The information shared will also be relevant to preparing a student for the college admissions process.  Register for College Prep Seminar for parents.
